This week on ‘So You Think You’re an Adult’, one woman asks for help navigating her husband’s proposition for a threesome with her friend.

“I've been married for 15 years to my teenage sweetheart,” she told Moncrieff.

“We got together at 17 after he kissed one of my friends before realizing I was the girl for him.

“Throughout the years, there's always been banter between my friend and husband about their brief dalliance and how there's unfinished business between them.

“My friend was over for dinner and after a few too many glasses of wine, the usual banter started between the pair, before we eventually put my friend in a taxi home.

“It was then, to my surprise, that my husband continued the conversation by suggesting we have a threesome.

“I feel like my whole relationship has been undermined by these newly confessed feelings – have I always been the consolation prize?

“Is this a big deal, or am I just a prude? How do any of us involved come back from it from this?”

Broadcaster Barbara Scully said the woman’s feelings were totally valid, and that a serious conversation between her and her husband was needed.

“If you weren't married I would say run a mile, but you are married, and I think you need to be very definitive that this is absolutely not on your radar at all,” she said.

“I think I think once you've talked to your husband – and hopefully, he'll accept the fact that what he thinks is all great craic, a great idea and a bit of fun, isn't [to you], and that it’s hurting you deeply.

“I think you then might need to have a chat with your mate as well and tell her to dial it down as well because it's causing serious problems.”

Gut reaction

TV personality Declan Buckley said the woman’s feelings were the most important thing at play.

“Your immediate gut response is the only truth,” he said.

“People having a positive or negative opinion about it in your village, in your town, in your country, or on the Internet forums that you're looking at is irrelevant.

“If your gut reaction to it is ‘this is not for me’, that's the truth."

Declan said he was shocked the husband didn’t realise how badly this suggestion would be taken.
