Rick Stein joined Sean Moncrieff today in studio to talk about his very honest and open memoir of his life, both before and after the love food took over.
He begins with his childhood in 1950s rural Oxfordshire and North Cornwall which he describes as idyllic. His parents were charming and gregarious, their five children much-loved and given freedom typical of the time.
But ever-present was the unpredictable mood of his bipolar father, with Rick frequently the focus of his anger and sadness.
Life began to change when, following his graduation from Oxford, he set up first a mobile disco called the Purple Tiger and then a nightclub in Padstow!
Things moved on and now he has carved out a hugely impressive career as a restaurateur and entrepreneur was followed by those of broadcaster, food champion and writer.
Rick is signing copies of his new book Under a Mackerel Sky (and backlist) in Dubray Books Grafton St on Saturday 2nd November at 12 midday
