Dianne Barker enjoys keeping active and campaigning in her local community. And when she has a point to make she likes to emphasize it in an unusual manner!
She does cartwheels ... and although she is a pro at them she has now been ordered to keep her acrobatics to herself!
Barker, 65, has received a letter from an attorney for the Maricopa Association of Governments demanding that she "immediately cease performing cartwheels at MAG meetings." She has been known to show off her gymnastic skills at the planning agency's regular gatherings.
"I think that the cartwheel is something I found out that I could do that is enjoyable, and it definitely expresses my passion," said Barker.
The former Ohio State cheerleader still has the spunk and stamina to pull it off, so she does at certain public meetings.
"At the end I said you know something you need to have passion in what you're doing rather than 3 minutes and here's your lobotomy," she said.
But some leaders with the Maricopa Association of Governments don't see it the same way unfortunately.
