Amanda Cotton has developed placenta photo frames for mothers.

Her first happy customer was Ulrika Jarl who gave the artist her placenta and now she has been given a photo frame to display her new born baby in.

Cotton says she has had ‘positive feedback’ and orders from parents for her design.

The 25-year-old puts dried and crushed pieces of the organ in a mould and adds resin, creating a marble-effect frame.

‘The placenta is one of the first creations the mother and baby make together, so why not celebrate that with a keepsake?’ said Ms Cotton, who works for a London design studio.

‘It’s common for people to keep the umbilical cord, first tooth or hair clippings.’

‘I understand why some people might find this a bit yucky, but why not use human waste where possible?’ Ms Jarl said.
