Sailors in Swansea, Australia, made an SOS call... to Swansea, South Wales.
As their boat was sinking, one of the crew googled the coastguard but picked the British number.
Asked if he could see the Mumbles lighthouse, he said there wasn’t one for miles.
Watch officer Charlie Davies said: “We asked him if he could see the Mumbles lighthouse which is a local landmark here in South Wales.
“When he said there wasn’t a lighthouse for miles around we started to realise it could be a different Swansea .
“Not just that but we also noticed he had an Australian accent.
“Sure enough when we asked him what country he was calling from and he said Australia.
“We checked our charts and realised he had come though to the wrong Swansea.”
The call was diverted to New South Wales and the three sailors were rescued on the lake near Sydney.
Mr Davies said: “We’ve got the telephone numbers of all the rescue coordination centres so we called the Australian one in Canberra.
“They passed it onto the Sydney Marine Police who launched a rescue boat to pick them up.”
He added: “We are just glad the sailors got picked up - they are probably having a beer now, hopefully toasting the part we played in their rescue.”
