It looks like the Government could win the referendum to get rid of the Seanad on grounds that killing it will save money, according to a new opinion poll by The Irish Times and Ipsos MRBI.

When undecided voters are excluded, the abolition proposal is supported by 62 per cent, with 38 per cent in favour of keeping the Upper House.

43 per cent said the main reason for abolition is to save money.

16 per cent said the Seanad didn’t do much or had no power and 14 per cent said two parliamentary chambers were not needed and that other countries had only one.

43 per cent of respondents said they would vote to set up the court of criminal appeal, 44 per cent were undecided.

I hit the streets to see how people will vote, and the main reason why they will vote yes or no.

I also find out if people care or have any interest in the Seanad and what people think Senators get up to in their roles.
