After making headlines with his 2012 viral short Just Saying, performer Emmet Kirwan has just uploaded another piece of spoken-word film. Heartbreak, about a young Irish woman and the choices she must make on her path to adulthood, is an original piece commissioned by the Irish theatre company ThisIsPopBaby for last year’s Fringe Festival.
Reuniting with Dave Tynan, who wrote and directed the 2012 piece about the ongoing emigration of young Irish people during the global financial crisis, Tynan once again takes on directing duties on this six-minute piece. However, this time it’s Kirwan who wrote the piece, with Tynan admitting he was “blown away” by Kirwan’s performance when he saw it last year as part of the play RIOT.
The short film mixed politics, social affairs, generational conflicts, and art and is sure to become a viral hit as it is shared across Irish social media over the days to come. Also featuring Jordanne Jones and Deirdre Molloy, take a look at the video in full below:
