Would you ever get a ‘beard transplant’?

While hair transplants have boomed in popularity in recent years, far fewer men want a full beard so much they contemplate surgery.

On Moncrieff, hair transplant advocate Spencer Stephenson explained that many people undergo a ‘beard transplant’ to cover up scarring on their face.

“I’ve met a number of people that want to camouflage scarring that may have occurred over the years on their face,” he said.

“It’s quite a common practice but also, it’s now in vogue to sport facial hair.

“For people who are not able to grow facial hair or beards, the hair transplant industry - rightly or wrongly - has provided this as a service for people to enable them to get fuller looking beards.

“Or so they hope.”

Mr Stephenson  said that “not everyone can grow a full thick beard” and that the procedure is very similar to a hair transplant.

“They remove hair from the donor region from the back and side of the head and put it in the recipient area,” he said.
