A day of mourning is being observed in Bangladesh today following the deaths of over 175 people after a building collapsed in Dhaka yesterday.

Officials in Dhaka are warning that the number of deaths could rise as many are still trapped inside.

Around 1,000 people are thought to have been injured when the building came down.

Thousands of tonnes of metal and concrete came crashing down on the three clothing factories, a bank and some shops that were inside the structure.

Rahul Bedi, New Dehli Correspondent with the Irish Times says it's not yet known how many people were working inside the building.

The Irish retailer Penneys confirmed last night that one of its suppliers occupied the second floor of the building and they say they are working to provide support to those affected.
