206 organ transplants took place in Ireland in 2012, according to the Organ Donation and Transplantation Figures.

The figures say 2012 was an average year for deceased organ donors at 78, down as expected from the record set the previous year at 93.

There were 163 kidney transplants during the year, 50 liver transplants and 10 heart transplants, almost doubling from 6 in 2011.

The figures were compiled in a report from the National Organ Procurement Service at Beaumont Hospital.
