239 people have died on trollies at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) over the last five years.
That is according to the Hospital's chief executive, Collette Cowan, who presented the figures to this month's Regional Health Forum West, following the inquest into the death of 16-year-old Aoife Johnston.
The inquest last month returned a verdict of 'medical misadventure'.
UHL figures
The Regional Health Forum West also heard 195 people died at Galway University Hospital during the same period, as well as 150 deaths at Sligo University Hospital, 117 at Mayo University Hospital, 108 at Letterkenny University Hospital and a further 72 at Portiuncula University Hospital.
Earlier this month, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly ordered an urgent review into whether the Mid-West needs a second Emergency Department to cope with the region's growing population and poor quality at UHL.
