A 29-year-old mother has been charged with murdering her baby boy in Belfast.

Raluca Ioana Tagani was remanded in custody after a hearing at Belfast Magistrates Court this morning.

She stands accused of murdering her eight-week-old son Liam O'Keefe in a house in the Ardoyne area of the city on Tuesday.

Ms Tagani, who is originally from Romania, is also accused of the attempted murder of another young child in the same incident.

The child is in a critical condition in hospital.

The accused, whose address was not provided to the court, appeared via video link from a custody cell for the brief hearing.

No application for bail was made and the judge remanded the accused in custody to appear before the court again on August 27th.
