3 additional suspects have been taken into custody by police investigating the Boston marathon bombings in the United States.

The Boston Police Department announced the arrests via their Twitter account.

Last Friday officials announced that the surviving Boston bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was moved from hospital to prison. He is still recovering from injuries he sustained in the manhunt that led to his arrest.

The 19-year-old has been charged with the April 15th attacks that claimed 3 lives and wounded more than 280 people.

It was also revealed last week that Dzhokhar and his brother were targeting Times Square.

Dzhokhar travelled to New York at least once last Autumn. There is a photo of him in Times Square. His older brother, Tamerlan, died in a shoot-out with police 2 weeks ago.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has said the brothers came up with the Times Square target on the night they were eventually caught.

"That plan however fell apart when they realised that the vehicle that they hijacked was low on gas and ordered the driver to stop at a nearby gas station. The driver then used the opportunity to escape and call the police."
