315 kilos of roll-your-own tobacco have been seized at Dublin Airport after being discovered in a box labelled 'advertising t-shirts'.

The tobacco has a retail value of €128,000 and represents an approximate loss to the Exchequer of €102,000.

The tobacco is believed to be of Chinese origin and was found when officers examined the cargo that arrived from Bulgaria.

Three Chinese men - aged 41, 33 and 27 - were arrested in connection with the incident. They have since been released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In a separate operation at Dublin Airport two weeks ago, Revenue seized 870 kilos of counterfeit tobacco pouches.

The counterfeit 'Golden Virginia' brand empty pouches had arrived from China. The consignment was described as 'plastic packaging'.
