Irish car dealers have sold more than 8,000 cars since the start of January.

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry and car website Motorcheck.ie, say figures from January 1st through to the 9th, show there has been a 43 per-cent increase in car sales compared with this time last year.

The sale of commercial vehicles is also reportedly up from the previous year.
