Vandals have caused €5,000 worth of damage to a 12-foot high statue of a penguin at the entrance to a Kerry aquarium.

Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry. It comes after two flippers 3-feet in length were broken off the fibre glass statue which stands at the entrance to Oceanworld in Dingle.

The incident happened at around 2.30am on March 18th. Gardaí have examined CCTV footage which apparently shows a number of young men attempting to remove the penguin.
