Around €200 million has been collected so far as part of the local property tax. Revenue has released figures up to the end of September.

It says the overall compliance rate for paying the tax is currently estimated to be 90%.

This is based on 1.59 million properties that have filed returns, returns made in connection, returns with 0.16 million local authority or similar properties and a total expected register of 1.95 million properties.

There were over 25,000 claims for an exemption

The expected numbers was previously estimated at 1.96 million, as taken from the CSO Census in 2011. But this has been reduced to based on further analysis since the last statistics report in July of this year.

Until the end of September 2013, the county with the highest property tax compliance rate was Dun Laoghaire Rathdown - at 92% - with €21 million paid.

The Dublin City Council area has paid €32.4 million, with a payment rate of 87%

Fingal in north Dublin, Kilkenny, North Tipperary, South Tipperary and Wicklow have a compliance rate of 91%. While the lowest payment rates at the end of September were in Donegal and Louth, at 84%.

Almost 18,000 claims for a deferral were made

It seems the preferred way for people to pay is through our credit and debit cards, which were used by just over 53%. A single debit authority and cheque was the next most-popular method of payment, at 31.1%, while just over 8% opted for a direct debit.

There were more than 25,000 claims for exemption from returned properties, and almost 18,000 claims for a deferral of payment.
