A 6.9-magnitude earthquake has struck off Papua New Guinea, according to the US Geological Survey.

The quake struck 96 miles south of Rabaul at a depth of 53 miles (85 kilometres).

There are no immediate reports of damages or casualties.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has said there is no danger of a tsunami.
