It seems like such a romantic gesture - a Dutch man in the town of IJsselstein wanted to propose to his girlfriend, and decided to do so by using a crane to appear dramatically in front of her room. He had even intended on singing a song before popping the question.

Unfortunately, it did not go exactly to plan.

As reported by BBC, the man in question failed to secure the crane adequately. Instead, the crane toppled over, and hit a neighbouring building, causing significant damage to the roof.

During attempts to remove the crane, it fell again and caused even more damage to the roof. The Associated Press reports that six apartments were evacuated altogether after the building was declared unsafe. 

On the plus side, nobody was injured. It also seems as if the woman said yes, and the couple are said to be celebrating their engagement in Paris.
