The introduction of prenups would be a “gamechanger”, a mediator has claimed.
Although common in the United States, prenups are not legal in Ireland and those signed abroad are not recognised by the courts.
Speaking on Newstalk Breakfast, divorce consultant and mediator Michelle Brown said the legal profession have a “vested interest” in making the process as long and difficult as possible.
“That’s where the business is; however, there is an alternative,” she said.
“What we need is more support from the Government; prenups are a no brainer.
“They are not recognised in Irish law and if we had prenups it would be a gamechanger - there would be no need for these court battles.”
