The man who died in a tragic diving accident off the coast of Donegal this weekend has been named locally as Patrick Doran.
Mr Doran, who was in his 40s, died after getting into difficulty at a diving event in the Teelin Bay area outside Killybegs.
It is understood he was taking part in the North West Dive Rally organised by the Donegal Bay Sub Aqua club.
Another man in his 60s was also injured and taken to University Hospital Galway.
Mr Doran, from Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, is survived by his wife Siobhán and three children, Emmet, Caoimhe and Eibhlín, along with extended family and friends.
“Pat’s memory will forever be treasured, he was loved beyond words, he will be missed beyond measure,” his obituary reads
'A loving family man'
St Mary’s GAA in Leitrim said in a statement online that Mr Doran was “a true Gael, loyal friend, and loving family man”.
“Paddy was more than a club member, the club was a part of him,” it said.
“There was nothing Paddy would not do to ensure we all got the club he felt we deserved.
“His sad passing leaves a void in our club and our lives which will never be replaced.
“We know our huge loss is shared with other clubs, especially Leitrim Gaels, with whom Paddy shared a wide circle of friends.”
The club extended its sympathies to Mr Doran’s family, including his mother Bridie, brothers and sisters.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
