Gardai are investigating two separate road traffic collisions in Dublin and Cork - which claimed the lives of two men.

 A 62 year-old pedestrian died following a collision in Dublin City Centre this morning while, a 19 year-old man was killed following a two-car crash in county Cork yesterday evening.

It happened on James Street close to Steeven's Lane at approximately 2.40am.

The pedestrian -a 62 year-old man- was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to the mortuary at St. James Hospital.

The driver of the car -a 58 year-old man- was taken by ambulance to St James Hospital for treatment but his injuries are believed to be minor.

The road was closed while gardai carried out a technical examination but has since re-opened.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in county Cork, a man has died following a two-car collision on the Refinery Road at Corkbeg in Whitegate just after 6.30pm yesterday evening.

The 19 year-old driver of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.

The driver of the second car -a 21 year-old man- was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment for non life threatening injuries.

There were no passengers in either car.

The road is currently closed while gardai carry out a technical examination of the scene.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to either incident to contact them
