A man's due back in court today in connection with the fall imprisonment of a child in County Laois.

Michael Martin of 3 Shandon Court, Yellow Road, Waterford City was charged last week with falsely imprisoning the 11-year-old girl at Oldtown, Cullahill on March 4th.

Portlaoise District Court heard last week that 35-year-old Michael Martin attempted to pull the young girl into a stolen vehicle as she played along the roadside.

The alert was raised, and he was later arrested in Castlecomer in County Kilkenny in a stolen silver SUV.

When charged, Mr Martin replied 'I did not abduct no one'.

An application for bail was refused by Judge Catherine Staines, on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence.

Mr Martin was ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment.

He's due back before Cloverhill Distrcit Court today.
