A man arrested after Gardaí uncovered drugs worth around €3 million yesterday is believed to be a senior player in the Hutch organised crime group, according to Conor Lally.
Gardaí found the cannabis, MDMA, cocaine, ecstasy tablets and cannabis jellies during searches at a house in Blanchardstown yesterday.
The searches were carried out after officers from to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) stop two cars in the area shortly after 5pm.
Three men aged 35, 40 and 53 were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and are being held at a Garda station in Dublin.
On Newstalk Breakfast this morning, The Irish Times Crime Editor Conor Lally said two of the men are Irish and one is Chinese.
“One of the men is of quite a bit of interest to Gardaí because he is very closely linked to the Hutch organised crime group,” he said.
“During the height of the Kinahan Hutch feud he would have been targeted by the Kinahan Cartel several times and he was warned by Gardaí his life was in danger.
“So, he is regarded as a fairly senior player within the Hutch crime group and he really rose up the ranks during the feud when other members of the group either had to flee abroad or were shot dead.
“So, it is quite a significant arrest there and a fairly large quantity of drugs.”
The Garda investigation is ongoing.
