Aaron Brady has lost an appeal against his conviction for the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.
Detective Donohoe was shot dead at close range when a gang of masked men attacked a cash convoy outside Lordship Credit Union in 2013.
Years later, 33-year-old Aaron Brady from Crossmaglen in County Armagh was extradited from the US to face charges over the killing.
In 2020, a jury found him guilty of the capital murder of Detective Donohoe.
His lawyers raised almost 50 grounds of appeal, including an argument that the trial shouldn’t have been allowed to continue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They also raised issues about the admissibility of CCTV and mobile phone evidence – claiming his right to privacy had been unlawfully breached.
His lawyers also claimed a key witness was induced to give evidence and testified in circumstances that were coercive or oppressive of him.
The judges rejected all of the arguments put forward on Brady’s behalf, thereby dismissing his appeal and sending him back to prison, where he will have to serve at least 40 years.
