A 23-year-old man has been handed a life sentence, for the murder of 18-year-old Cameron Reilly, who was found dead in a field in County Louth four years ago.
Aaron Connolly of Willstown, Drumcar had pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Reilly at Shamrock Hill, Dunleer in May 2018.
A jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict last week and he was today sentenced to life in prison.
On the morning of the 26th of May 2018, the body of 18-year-old Cameron Reilly was discovered in a field in Drumcar County Louth, with strangulation marks on his neck.
The Dundalk IT student had been drinking and socialising with around 15 to 20 others in a field in Shamrock Hill that night.
They had left to get takeaway food before a small group returned to the field.
Cameron’s body was found there the next morning.
In a victim impact statement delivered by his uncle Darren Flanagan, Cameron was remembered as a “happy-go-lucky” boy who loved music and attending concerts.
He was also known as a popular teen among his friends and family.
Aaron Connolly was today sentenced to life in prison.
