US actor Johnny Depp has lost his libel action against the publishers of The Sun newspaper in Britain.
The actor had sued after the British paper printed an article calling him a 'wife beater' - something he has always denied.
This was one of the biggest libel trials in the 21st century and laid bare the chaotic lifestyle of Johnny Depp, showing his personal battles with drugs and alcohol.
But the Hollywood actor said he wanted to clear his name against claims of domestic violence against his ex-wife actor Amber Heard during their marriage.
However he has lost.
A UK Hight Court judge found that what was in the article was "substantially true".
It found that 12 out of 14 allegations of domestic violence did occur, and rejected Mr Depp’s claims that his ex-wife was a gold digger who constructed a hoax.
Mr Depp's legal team claim it would be ridiculous for him not to appeal the judgement.
They have described the dismissal of his libel case as "perverse" and "bewildering".
Jenny Afia, of Schillings law firm, said: "This decision is as perverse as it is bewildering.
"Most troubling is the judge's reliance on the testimony of Amber Heard, and corresponding disregard of the mountain of counter-evidence from police officers, medical practitioners, her own former assistant, other unchallenged witnesses and an array of documentary evidence which completely undermined the allegations, point by point.
"All of this was overlooked. The judgment is so flawed that it would be ridiculous for Mr Depp not to appeal this decision."
"In the meantime, we hope that in contrast to this case, the ongoing libel proceedings in America are equitable, with both parties providing full disclosure rather than one side strategically cherry picking what evidence can and cannot be relied upon," she said.
The Sun newspaper said in a statement domestic abuse victims must never be silenced and thanked Amber Heard for her courage in giving evidence to the court.
A lawyer for Ms Heard said the decision and judgement are not a surprise.
