Sharing is caring, but one boyfriend is running out of care as his partner routinely ‘steals’ his takeaway food.

The man told So You Think You’re an Adult he discovered the problem when he moved in with his girlfriend.

“Every Saturday, we'll sit down and watch a movie, but before we press play, I always suggest getting a takeaway,” he told Moncrieff.

“Every weekend, my girlfriend says she doesn't want anything – however, every single time the food comes, she runs to the kitchen and says she’ll make a small bowl with the food that I’ve ordered for myself.”

Last weekend, the boyfriend decided to tell his girlfriend to stay away from his takeaway – and she said he was being “overdramatic and over the top”.

“If we’re going to be living together, I want to set boundaries - [but] she's now not talking to me because she said I was too abrupt last weekend.”

'Does she not have dinner?'

Writer Barbara Scully said she “totally agrees” with the boyfriend – and noted not all women steal food.

“I am curious, though, and a little worried – does she not have a dinner?” she asked.

She advised the boyfriend to watch out for his girlfriend’s general eating habits to make sure there are no issues beyond sharing food.

Broadcaster Declan Buckley said the girlfriend might feel insecure about eating unhealthily – and thinks taking her boyfriend’s takeaway doesn’t count.

“Either he’s being scammed – like she doesn’t want to contribute – or she's scamming herself into thinking that she's not eating or whatever,” he said.

“That's really unhealthy on many levels, not even from a nutritional point of view.”

Takeaway trouble

Declan recommended tactfully telling the girlfriend to “stop sitting on the fence” and get a takeaway for herself.

“Her behaviour there is wrong as far I’m concerned,” he said. “To actually not talk about the actual issue – that she’s the one who changed her mind, she’s the one being erratic.”

He noted there might also be a “financial aspect” to her not ordering a takeaway for herself – but the boyfriend simply needs to address the problem head-on.
