The members of unions representing staff in Aer Lingus and the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action.
The ballot from the 6 unions involved – SIPTU, Impact, Mandate, TEEU, Unite, UCATT – seeks to engage in industrial action if either or both companies allow changes to be made to their pension scheme without the agreement of staff.
The scheme known as the Irish Aviation Superannuation Scheme (IAAS) has a deficit of around €700 million.
Irish Congress of Trade Unions’ (ICTU) Industrial Officer is Liam Berney.
He says the travelling public will not be immediately affected.
However he adds that the unions want a quick response from management.
