After making two attempts to end her life in the past, DJ Nikki Hayes says talking to people about her mental health issues has saved her life.
Together with organisation ‘the 3ts’ a Self Help Library, which allows people to learn more about a number of mental health topics in privacy, she is trying to help others do the same.
The Spin 1038 DJ joined Jonathan Healy today to discuss her mental health. Nikki says that when she turned 16, she started to feel bad about herself and how she looked and felt.

"I was constantly trying to lose weight, I just didn't feel like I liked the person I was or the body that I was in. I took an overdose. I guess it was only then recognised that I had anorexia. I was hospitalized after that."
During college, Nikki felt like she was in a very dark place and took another overdose. She was brought to hospital after people in the house found her but she checked herself back out.
"I felt sad. I hated myself, I really didn't like the person I was.
"I never properly fit in anywhere. I would have just liked to have just been able to show myself there is light at the end of the road, it's not the end. At that time, I really thought the world would be a better place without me."
Nikki says the one thing she would like to tell people: "Yes, you are worth it. People do love you."
