Age Action calls on communities to look after older people as cold weather continues

Age Action is calling on communities to look after older peoples in their homes, as the cold weather continues.

The organisation is also encouraging older people to stay in contact with friends, family and other older people.

Age Action says medical research shows that when temperatures drop below 12 degrees, blood can thicken and lead to a increased risk of stroke or heart attack.

Temperatures dropped to as low as minus six in some parts overnight.

Gerard Scully is spokesperson for Age Action.

He's encouraging people to wrap up warm and to wear shoes with good grip if they're planning to head out today:
