The institutions in Northern Ireland do not need to be up and running in time for Good Friday, but power-sharing needs to return soon, according to Bertie Ahern.
The former Taoiseach has said it is hugely important all elements of the Good Friday Agreement are realised.
He was speaking at the launch of a new podcast from Newstalk, As I Remember It: Bertie Ahern & The Good Friday Agreement.
In it, Mr Ahern speaks to all the main players involved in striking the deal 25 years ago.
“He never gave up on it.”
Bertie Ahern says Tony Blair stuck with the peace process “through all the jigs and the reels” and “gave an enormous amount of his time to the people of Ireland.” #GFA25https://t.co/GmKYUlYqcX pic.twitter.com/IjaNTHHqWq— NewstalkFM (@NewstalkFM) February 22, 2023
He said as the anniversary approaches it is important power-sharing returns there.
"It's crucial that they're up and running somewhere along this year," he said.
"I want to be gentle in my words, but to have Northern Ireland with no executive - no institutions working - is terrible for the people of Northern Ireland".
As I Remember It is a nine-part series that will launch on all streaming platforms this February 23rd.
