The Irish Self-Catering Federation has said their members' properties are not part of the solution to the housing crisis.
Today, Cabinet will discuss a proposal to crackdown on Airbnb and other short-term lets, in a bid to bring more accommodation into the long-term rental sector.
On Newstalk Breakfast, Irish Self-Catering Federation CEO Maire Ní Mhurchu said they have “concerns” about what might change.
“We have no idea at all what is coming to Cabinet this morning - even though we’re the national representative body for the short-term self catering industry,” she said.
“Self-catering has been here for many, many generations and I get upset when people say Airbnb - because we were here long before Airbnb.”
Ms Ní Mhurchu described her members as the “backbone of rural tourism” and said their properties cannot provide a solution to the housing crisis.
“I have a property in West Cork; most of our properties are in rural areas along the Wild Atlantic Way,” she said.
“We’re not going to be able to house all the people in Dublin.”
