The Junior Health Minister says doctors will have to obey the law of the land once legislation on abortion is introduced.
At their annual conference on Friday, the Irish Medical Organisation voted against the provision of legal terminations in cases where there is a real and substantial risk to a mother's life, cases of rape or incest or if a baby would be unlikely to live outside the womb.
The three motions sparked divisive debate amongst doctors, with some afraid they would be vilified by the public for allowing abortion on demand.
But Alex White said the vote will not influence the governments plan to introduce legislation:
