An Irish woman on holiday in Japan has died after suffering an allergic reaction.
Aika Doheny, who was in her 20s and from Kilkenny, was on holiday in Tokyo to visit family. She became seriously ill after drinking a soya coffee.
She was rushed to hospital where she was treated in intensive care; she was then flown to Dublin’s St James’ Hospital in an air ambulance. It was there that she passed away.
Her death notice on RIP.ie describes her as the “beloved daughter of Mayumi and the late Paul and cherished sister of Paul Makoto and Cian Takuya, sadly missed by her heartbroken mother and brothers, grandmother Sachiko Wakao (Tokyo), aunts, uncles, cousins in Ireland, Japan and the USA, extended family, neighbours and her many friends.”
Aika’s funeral mass will take place on Saturday at 10.30am in St John’s Church in Kilkenny. Her body will be cremated afterwards.
