Around 4,000 people from 20 different countries have become Irish citizens today.
They have taken an Oath of Fidelity and have received a certificate of naturalisation at the Convention Centre in Dublin.

Retired High Court Judge Bryan McMahon performed the role of Presiding Officer and administered the Declaration of Fidelity and Loyalty to the State.
The first citizenship ceremony ever held in this State took place on 24th June 2011 in the Dublin Castle Convention Centre, when 73 applicants became Ireland's newest citizens.

Today 2,229 women and 1,738 men became citizens - among them were 195 who came to this country as political refugees.
So far 81 citizenship ceremonies have been held since June 2011, and approximately 59,000 men, women and children have been naturalised as Irish citizens.

The Minister for Justice will address all four ceremonies. Alan Shatter says it is an emotional day and an important occasion.
