The Junior Certificate results are being released later today.
A total of 70,727 students are receiving their results, which is a 5% increase on 2022.
It is the first time in history that the number of candidates taking the Junior Cycle examinations has passed 70,000.
That includes any of its predecessors - such as the Intermediate Certificate.
Some 629,189 grades are being provided in 21 individual subjects.
This year saw the second full year of exams in the reformed Junior Cycle.
The State Examinations Commission has said appeals will only be accepted from school authorities "confirming that the examination result attained by the candidate is significantly at variance with the result expected".
Applications must be made through the school no later than 5pm on Tuesday October 24th.
A fee of €32 applies to each subject appealed, which is refunded in the event of an upgrade.
