The daughter of a man who has been missing for 42 years has said it would be like winning the lottery to get closure.
Almost 900 missing people will be remembered at an annual ceremony in Croke Park today.
It marks the 10th National Missing Persons Day – and the first in-person event since 2019.
Junior Justice Minister James Browne will host today's ceremony, which offers families and friends a chance to remember their loved ones.
In all, there are 836 long-term missing people in the Republic, and 61 in the North.
Carol Morris will remember her father, Albert Timmins, who vanished two days before Christmas in 1980.
She told Newstalk that she went to check on the 58-year-old at his home in Swords the following day and has not heard from him since.
Carol will remember him again on his anniversary later this month.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris will also attend today's event in Croke Park.
