'An Irish Goodbye' actor James Martin has received an honorary doctorate from Ulster University for outstanding contribution to the arts.
The award was conferred on the actor during a graduation and celebration ceremony in Belfast on Wednesday.
Filmed in Northern Ireland, 'An Irish Goodbye' won an Academy Award, IFTA and BAFTA for Best Live Action Short.
It tells the story of two estranged brothers, forced to reunite following the untimely death of their mother.
Accepting his doctorate, James urged students to never judge a book by its cover.
"I am delighted to be honoured by Ulster University with my honorary doctorate," James said.
"All my mum’s family went to Ulster University, it holds a special place in our hearts.
"My message to all of you students: never judge a book by its cover, everyone should have a voice, follow your dreams, have fun with your family and friends, laugh lots and I wish you all the best going forward.
“I have worked very hard to achieve the things I do in life," he added.
Among the 11 honourees were a World Champion gymnast, a prize-winning poet, a BBC Radio 3 broadcaster and a leader in women’s football.
