Boy B has withdrawn his appeal against his conviction for the murder of Ana Kriègel.
The now 18-year-old was just 13 when he lured the Kildare schoolgirl to her death in May 2018.
Boy B’s appeal against his conviction for Ana Kriegel’s murder was due to begin at 10am this morning, but there was a delay to allow him some time to consult with his lawyers and his parents.
When the case was eventually called, his barrister, James Dwyer SC, told the judges that his client wished to withdraw his appeal.
He also confirmed he wouldn’t be appealing the sentence he was handed down for Ana’s murder.
Boy B is now 18 years old but his identity will forever be protected by law because of his age at the time of the murder.
He addressed the court to confirm that was his wish and he also confirmed he understood the consequences of his decision.
Ana’s mother Geraldine was in court today. Sadly, her husband Patrick passed away a few months ago. Both sat through each day of their daughter’s harrowing trial.
Boy B’s friend and co-accused Boy A has never lodged an appeal against his murder conviction or the sentence he received.
