Irish OnlyFans creator Andy Lee has said success on the platform depends on what you put into it.

The online platform known for adult content is back in the spotlight after British singer Lily Allen announced she is joining OnlyFans to sell photos of her feet.

The singer shared a video showing a glimpse of her toes as she perched by the Trevi Fountain in Rome on her Instagram story on Tuesday night.

A link labelled "la dolce feeta" took followers to her OnlyFans account.

Andy Lee told The Hard Shoulder the subscription service has become more mainstream.

"There's loads of celebrities doing it - now that it's become so popular, worldwide and so accepted loads of people are signing up," he said.

"They know they can monetise it, and why not, why shouldn't they?"

Andy said being on the platform has changed his life.

"When I first signed up it was a side gig for me while I was working for the council," he said.

"Obviously bad things happened: my boss found out that I'd done it and they let me go.

"It became my full-time career and I do really well from it now".

Andy Lee said there is a wide-range of success for different members.

"People can earn as little as nothing and then there's people earning the millions," he said.

"It just depends who you are, where you're from, what your content is and what your fanbase is.

"It's the same as any other business really; if you have a big enough customer base you can earn really good money".

Andy said the average is "about $1,000 a month for your basic person and then I know people who are earning up to $100,000 a month.

"It just depends [on] what you put in and what you get out of it".

Andy Lee said he offers the same advice to anyone considering such a career move.

"You really have to think about this because once you post that on the internet it's out there forever," he said.

"A lot of people don't agree with what a lot of people do online.

"I get a lot of hate from all angles - luckily I'm very successful so they can't really hate on someone who's winning.

"But then you have people who are starting out who are not really successful and their family is getting sent the videos and photos and stuff like that.

"They don't really understand at the beginning, they just see the money coming in, but it does have big repercussions".

'Financial freedom'

Andy said he has no qualms about his work.

"It has given me financial freedom, it has given me time freedom," he said.

"If I do go down the family route and all that stuff I will be able to give my family what I could have never given them when I done porn.

"That's sort of where I balance it out".

Andy Lee said he doesn't see why Lily Allen shouldn't join the platform.

"She's not doing anything wrong; she's not going to damage her career because she's not going to be doing porn," he said.

"Maybe she posts some pictures of her feet but what's the difference of her posting pictures of her sitting on a beach with her feet out?

"It's a problem for people who have a problem with it," he added.

Unofficial figures suggest OnlyFans has an average of 420 million monthly active users.
