New York-based users of the dating app Tinder began to notice something odd last week. Instead of pictures of the opposite (or same) sex appearing on their screen, they were greeted by dogs.
As it turned out, it was all part of a marketing campaign by the Social Tees Animal Rescue shelter.
An ad agency created full social media profiles for the animals, giving them tag-lines like "I'll never get tired of licking you :p" and "not looking for hookups - long term relationships only."
Speaking to TIME, Social Tees explained that the campaign encouraged Tinder users to adopt a dog either for two weeks or permanently.
As of Monday, the dogs had collectively received over 2,500 matches, so maybe people really wanted a long term partner after all.
