Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for information on the murder of Antoinette Smith some 37 years after she disappeared in Dublin.

The mother of two was last seen on O’Connell Street after attending a David Bowie concert at Slane Castle on Saturday 11th July 1987.

Her body was found near the Lemass monument at Glendoo Mountain in County Wicklow nearly nine months later.

Gardaí say her two daughters “deserve to see justice for those responsible for taking their mother from them at such a young age”.

They are urging anyone who knows anything about the murder to come forward – especially if “relationships have changed” in the 37 years since Antoinette went missing.

Disappearance

Antoinette attended the David Bowie concert at Slane Castle with a friend and the pair returned to Dublin by bus – arriving at Parnell Square at around 11pm.

They then went on to La Mirage Discotheque on Parnell Street.

While in the club, they met two men they knew and they remained with them until all four left the club shortly after 2am.

Antoinette parted company with her friend when they left the club and remained talking to the two men for some time.

All three walked the short distance to the taxi rank on O’Connell Bridge where the men got a taxi to the Ballymun area.

Antoinette was last seen walking by the Gresham Hotel towards O’Connell Bridge.

She was later reported missing by her husband and remained missing for nine months until her body was found on Glendoo Mountain not far from Enniskerry.

Justice

Antoinette’s two daughters Lisa and Rachel were just seven and four years old when she disappeared and Gardaí say they deserve justice for what happened to their mother.

“The team within An Garda Síochána that are leading this investigation firmly believe that there are people out there who have information concerning Antoinette’s murder,” said Detective Inspector Seamus Ryan.”

“We are appealing to them to come forward and speak with us about any detail that they may know.

“No matter the passage of time or how insignificant they might think it is, it could potentially help us in our work to solve this case.

“Antoinette’s two daughters, Lisa and Rachel deserve to see justice for those responsible for taking their mother from them at such a young age.”

Investigators are assuring the public that they will “treat anyone assisting the investigation in a sensitive manner”.
