Gardaí in Dublin are appealing for information after the murder of a leading dissident republican in Clongriffin yesterday.
Alan Ryan has several previous convictions and is known by detectives for his links to the Real IRA.
A second man was also injured in the shooting but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
At about 3:30pm yesterday afternoon 2 men in their 30s were fired upon on Grange Lodge Avenue in Clongriffin.
Mr. Ryan died after he was taken to Beaumont Hospital while the second man is still being treated for his injuries.
Ryan had a string of previous convictions including for taking part in a Real IRA training camp in Meath in 2001 and separately served a prison sentence for possession of a firearm.
He was due to go on trial along with 3 other men for threatening a publican in Dublin last year.
A post-mortem is expected to take place on his body today.
A burnt-out silver Volvo car was discovered by Gardaí on the Hole in the Wall Road shortly after the shooting.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have saw the car, the gunmen or the shooting itself to contact them on the Garda Confidential Line or at Coolock Garda Station.
Superintendent Ronan Galligan of Coolock Garda Station is urging anyone who saw either the car or the gunmen to come forward.
