An appeal for information on a man seen entering the water in Donegal earlier this month has been stood down after a body was discovered off the coast of Scotland.
Gardaí searching for a man in his 70s issued an appeal for information after someone matching his description was seen entering the sea at Lagacurry Beach at the Isle of Doagh, a peninsula in Inisowen in northern Donegal, in early October.
At the time, investigators said they were operating on the basis that the man was “missing, presumed dead”.
They appealed for fishermen, coastal landowners and anyone currently in the area to report anything they came across the emergency services.
This morning, Gardaí confirmed that they were standing down their appeal.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Following the formal identification of a body of a male discovered off the coast of Scotland, our appeal regarding this incident has now been withdrawn.”
“We would like to extend our thanks to the public and media for their assistance in this matter.”
The body was discovered in the water last Thursday, October 24th.
