Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after two serious crashes over the Christmas period.
On Christmas Day, an elderly man died after a two car crash at 12.40am on the N55 at Clarebane, County Cavan.
The man, who was in his late 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Cavan General Hospital for a post-mortem.
The four occupants of the second car were also taken to hospital, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Any witnesses have been asked to contact Cavan Garda Station on 049 4368800.
Gardaí are also appealing for any witnesses who saw a serious crash on Christmas Eve.
At 7.30 in the evening, on the N28 at Carr’s Hill in County Cork, two cars collided.
The driver of one car, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the second car, a woman in her 50s, was also hospitalised with serious injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.
