Gardaí are investigating an armed robbery on a cash in transit van in Co. Meath during which a shot was fired.

They are appealing for witnesses to the robbery which happened at a shopping centre in Ratoath.

The raid happened at 1:45pm this afternoon as the cash-in-transit van was making a delivery to an ATM machine at the rear of the Corballis Shopping Centre in Rathoath.

3 men one armed with a firearm and another with a hammer threatened staff of the CIT van.

Gardaí say one shot was fired but no one was injured and no money was taken.

The suspects left the scene in the direction of Ashbourne in a white van with a 00-G registration.

At the time of the raid the van had a distinctive orange pipe tied to its roof.

Gardaí are now appealing for anyone who saw the van acting suspiciously in the Ratoath area before the raid or as it left the scene.
