Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery at a post office in Cork city.

Investigators said two men armed with what is believed to have been a handgun and an iron bar raided the post office in Little Island at around 9:30am this morning.

They threatened staff and fled with a small sum of cash.

None of the staff were injured in the robbery.

The men escaped in a black car with an 05C registration. Gardaí said the car had damage on both sides.

No arrests have been made and the Garda investigation is ongoing.
