An Armed Support Unit will be stationed in the Cavan-Monaghan area from today.
It's the third armed unit to be located along the border, with existing teams located in Ballyshannon and Dundalk.
20 gardaí will be stationed in the Cavan-Monaghan area as part of the new unit.
The Garda Commissioner confirmed the deployment last week at the Cross Border Organised Crime Conference.
The spotlight on border resources intensified and the recent assault of Kevin Lunney in County Cavan.
It also comes in the lead-up to Brexit.
Drew Harris last week told an Oireachtas committee they will also be looking at additional resources for national units to focus on border-related issues if there's a hard Brexit.
He said: "We have to think about the economic crime bureau and also if we need to allocate further resources in dealing with the confiscation of assets. We have been through a big training programme on asset confiscation, in which each division will have specific members trained.
"There has been a big uplift in our capability and there is more to come. A lot of it is in the context of the overall policing of Ireland, but we are aware of the challenges Brexit may bring."
Commissioner Harris stressed: "A lot of Brexit planning has happened. I entirely refute the suggestion that there is no Brexit plan.
"We have made, as best we can, provision for what Brexit may bring."
