A man (19) has been arrested following the discovery of the body of a woman in a house in north Kerry this morning.

The body of a woman aged in her 50s was found in the bedroom of a house in Lixnaw near Listowel sometime after 9am.

It is understood the woman had head injuries and a full garda investigation is now underway into her death.

Gardai have called for the services of the State Pathologist.

The body remains at the scene which has been preserved and is pending the arrival of a pathologist and a garda technical team.

The man is being held at Listowel garda station.
